Object models in multiscale intrinsic coordinates via m-reps

چکیده
Object descriptions used for 3D segmentation by deformable models and for statistical characterization of 3D object classes benefit from having intrinsic correspondences over deformation of the objects or multiple instances in the same object class. These correspondences apply over a variety of spatial scale levels and consequently lead to efficient segmentation and probability distributions of geometry that are trainable with an achievable number of training instances. This paper describes a figural coordinate system provided by m-reps models and shows how such coordinates not only provide the required positional correspondences, but also are intuitive and provide orientational and metric correspondences. Examples are given for the segmentation of kidneys from CT and for the statistical characterization of schizophrenia and control classes of cerebral ventricles and of hippocampus pairs.

Deformable Solid Modeling using Sampled Medial Surfaces: A Multiscale Approach Technical Report TR00-005
We introduce a multiscale approach to modeling and rendering deformable solid objects, replacing polygonal or spline-based B-reps with a medial representation (M-rep) based on hierarchically linked, discretely sampled medial figures. Each medial figure is a widthproportionally sampled medial surface which implies object boundaries within a width-proportional tolerance; boundary variations withi...
متن کاملDeformable Solid Modeling via Medial Sampling and Displacement Subdivision
Discrete m-reps use tolerance-based, sampled medial skeleta as an underlying framework for boundaries defined by displaced subdivision surfaces. They provide local and global shape information, combining the strengths of multiscale skeletal modeling with the multi-resolution, deformation and shading properties afforded by subdivision surfaces. Hierarchically linked medial figures allow figural,...
متن کاملM - Reps : A New Object Representation for Graphics
M-reps are a multiscale approach to the modeling and rendering of 3D solid geometry. Traditional geometric models, whether b-reps or CSG, are represented at infinitesimal spatial scale and then require simplification to meet needs requiring coarser scale or smaller data sets. We have developed a model that is designed at successively smaller scales and supports a coarse-to-fine hierarchy in des...
متن کاملManual for Fitting S-reps and Computing Shape Statistics via S-reps
S-reps are form of skeletal representation that capture the interior of an object in a way that a) provides an object-related coordinate system for the points in the object interior and near exterior; b) supports statistics on object geometry. This document teaches 1) What the s-rep computer representation is. 2) How to prepare object descriptions implying an object boundary for being fit by an...
متن کاملMultiscale medial shape-based analysis of image objects
Medial representation of a three-dimensional (3-D) object or an ensemble of 3-D objects involves capturing the object interior as a locus of medial atoms, each atom being two vectors of equal length joined at the tail at the medial point. Medial representation has a variety of beneficial properties, among the most important of which are 1) its inherent geometry, provides an object-intrinsic coo...
